15TH SEPTEMBER 2001
BEVERLEY TOWN 2 V 4 WESTELLA &
WILLERBY
After a tight first half hour it was Beverley who opened the scoring after
Westella failed to cope with a cross from the left and the ball was poked
home from close range to give Beverley a one goal lead going into half
time.
Westella struck back within the first five minutes of the second half
after
Beverley failed to clear from a corner and Chris Edmonds fired in
from just
inside the penalty area with an unstoppable shot to draw Westella level.
Beverley then dominated the game with some crisp passing and the pressure
finally paid off when they took the lead from a well executed near post
corner.
Beverley continued to come forward and never looked troubled until Chris
Edmonds was sent clear from a excellent through ball to coolly slot
home the
equaliser. This was counter attacking at it's best!
Although Beverley enjoyed a lot of possession Westella found their way
down
the other end for a corner and after failing to clear the ball again Chris
Blenkin fired the visitors into the lead with another unstoppable
shot from
just inside the penalty area.
Beverley pushed more men forward looking for the equaliser and were soon
punished in the dying seconds as Chris Edmonds was put in the clear
again
and completed his hat-trick with a superb lob over the advancing keeper.
In the end for all of Beverley's possession it was Westella's
counter-attacking game and some excellent finishing that was the deciding
factor on this occasion.
