17TH OCTOBER 2001

WESTELLA & WILLERBY 1 V 3 BEVERLEY TOWN

A scrappy first half saw Beverley go 1-0 up in the 36th minute after a cross came in from the right and the Beverley number 10 heading in from the penalty spot.

Laud nearly made it 2-0 on the stroke of half time after a his shot only found the side netting after a flick on from a long throw.

Westella started the second half brightly and Chris Edmonds broke down the left hand side, cut inside and his shot grazed past the post. Westella eventually got an equaliser after Gareth Wilson's free kick  was headed in by Chris Blenkin, not long after coming on from the bench.

Controversy surrounded Beverley's second goal after Dunn rounded Matt Herschell-Smith in the Westella goal and, seemingly running out of pitch, he fell over and was awarded a penalty. The penalty was converted leaving Westella 15 minutes to grab an equaliser.

As Westella pushed forward Beverley grabbed a third in injury time as their number 15 beat the off side trap and lobbed Hersch from 25 yards.
