3RD DECEMBER 2001

BRIDLINGTON SPORTS CLUB 1 V 1 WESTELLA & WILLERBY

Westella came into this fixture on the back of 8 straight victories and were looking to make it 9 against a side who have struggled all season.

They got off to a good start and in the 7th minute Scott Clark headed a corner just over the bar. Nicky Laughton then hit the woodwork from a spectacular overhead kick. Mike Gibson and Luke Ellis both had their efforts well saved by the Bridlington keeper all in the opening 20 minutes.

Matt Herschell-Smith had to be alert in the 22nd minute when a good free kick from Smith warmed the gloves of the Westella keeper.

Westella went ahead on the half hour when Chris Edmonds was sent clear, only to have is shot saved by the Bridlington keeper, Nicky Laughton was on hand for the follow up but his shot was saved. The ball eventually fell to Gareth Wilson to put the ball in on the 3rd attempt.

Bridlington came out strong in the second half only to have an early goal ruled out for off-side. Matt Herschell-Smith in the Westella goal was having a far busier second half and was doing all he could to keep Bridlington out.

Bridlington eventually got the equaliser they deserved when a free kick was sent to the far post, headed back across the goal and netted by the Bridlington forward.
