1ST SEPTEMBER 2001 WESTELLA & WILLERBY 6 V 3 BRIDLINGTON S.C. An end to end football match with both sides committed to attacking. Chris Blenkin opened the scoring for the home side with a near post header from a Danny Rhodes corner. Chris Edmonds then scored from a Blenkin cross which found him free at the far post. Chris Blenkin then scored again with a ferocious 30 yard drive into the bottom corner of the Bridlington net. The teams went in at half time with Westella 3-0 up. Nicky Laughton got another just after half time after some good work down the Westella right. Westella apparently coasting conceded their first goal of the game, but they soon restored their 4 goal cushion after Gareth Wilson finished well after a quick break down the left side. Bridlington struck again as Westella took their foot of the gas, but again restored their 4 goal cushion after good work from Laughton to leave Gareth Ogle one on one with the keeper to finish coolly. Bridlington got a late consolation goal as Westella cruised to another victory. |
