24TH NOVEMBER 2001 DRIFFIELD F.C. 1 V 4 WESTELLA & WILLERBY Westella came out of the blocks all guns blazing after a disappointing result against Beverley the previous week. They took the lead in the first minute after a driven in free kick was poked in by Geoff Herbert. Driffield nearly hit back in the 4th minute after Matt Herschell-Smith spilled a cross only for Hutch to put his effort wide of the post. Nicky Laughton headed over after 5 minutes before Chris Blenkin Volleyed home from a Scott Clark long throw. In the 8th and 9th minute Edmonds and Clark both had efforts cleared off the line. Westella extended their lead further after Andy Outram played the ball forward, Chris Edmonds flicked on and Nicky Laughton raced through put the visitors 3-0 up. Nicky Laughton had another header cleared off the line on the stroke of half time and Driffield were fortunate to be only 3-0 down going in at half time. 10 minutes after the break the Driffield off side trap failed them again as Geoff Herbert put Chris Blenkin clear. He rounded the keeper and finished from a tight angle. Driffield could only drag one goal back in stoppage time to deny Westella of what would have been only their second clean sheet of the season, but they were content just to end their dismal run of form.
