15TH DECEMBER 2001 DRIFFIELD F.C. 3 V 3 WESTELLA & WILLERBY Driffield started the stronger of the two sides and in the first 10 minutes woodcock had two opportunities to open the scoring, his first sailing over the bar and a good save from Matt Herschell-Smith kept the scores level. Driffield finally opened the scoring in the 27th minute as the ball fell to Thompson from 20 yards out and he applied the finish to give Driffield the lead at half time. Westella came out strong in the second half and Mark McGrath went close as his shot was tipped over the bar. The resulting corner fell to Chris Blenkin who shot just wide. In the 52nd minute Blenkin had a free kick tipped wide and Geoff Herbert had his volley tipped over from the resulting corner. Nicky Laughton headed in from the corner to get Westella back into the game. In the 57th minute Mark McGrath found Nicky Laughton free in box for him to head in his second of the game. Nicky Laughton completed his hat-trick in the 59th minute after the ball fell to him from 4 yards out. From the resulting kick off a long ball found Thompson and his first time shot beat Hersch in the Westella goal. Thompson completed his own hat-trick in the 85th minute after Hersch saved well from Dinsdale and Thompson had a simple tap in to give them a share of the points. |
