13TH OCTOBER 2001

WESTELLA & WILLERBY 4 V 1 EASINGTON UNITED

A bright start by both teams saw both teams going close in the opening 5 minutes. It was Easington who broke the deadlock in the 6th minute.

Nicky Laughton levelled the match 10 minutes later after some good approach work by Chris Edmonds, to take the sides in level at the break.

It was Chris Edmonds who put Westella ahead after the break, scoring from 12 yards out.

Then in the 69th minute Scott Clark was sent crashing to ground after a crunching tackle that caused Clark to retaliate and receive a caution. From the resulting free kick Easington could only clear the ball to Gareth Wilson, for him to cross to the far post for Scott Clark to head home and take Westella into a 3-1 lead. Clark was shown a second yellow for "over enthusiastic" celebrations.

With Westella down to ten men they still pressed forward and Gareth Ogle found himself one on one with keeper only for his legs to be taken away from him. Chris Edmonds converted the resulting penalty to put the game beyond Easington's reach.
