20TH OCTOBER 2001 HUTTON CRANSWICK 1 V 3 WESTELLA & WILLERBY A bright start by Westella in the 5th minute a Garreth Wilson free kick was crossed in and Luke Ellis's header was destined for goal but the Cranswick keeper tipped wide for a corner. In the 9th minute Danny Rhodes crossed in a free kick and Nicky Laughton's shot was deflected wide for a corner. From the corner came the game's opening goal after Mike Gibson flicked on at the near post corner and Nicky Laughton headed home. Cranswick nearly equalised in the 13th minute when Davies went around two defenders to shoot wide. He had another chance 2 minutes later but Matt Herschell-Smith was on hand to deny him the opportunity in the Westella goal. Just after the half hour mark Chris Edmonds was on the end of a clever lobbed ball by Geoff Herbert to fire home from 12 yards. Nicky Laughton made it 3-0 in the 53rd minute after rounding two defenders and slotting home from 20 yards out. Cranswick never gave up and when a cross came in Davies found himself wide open the area and scored from 8 yards out. Cranswick continued to apply the pressure but the Westella defence held firm. |
