A BIT OF HISTORY! Westella & Willerby A.F.C. are one of the oldest established clubs not only in the East Riding County Football League, but in the East Riding and the surrounding districts itself. Founded in the early 1920's by a well known local land owner of the time, Captain Sykes, the club began it's early life in the County League. Around this time the club was given it's original nickname - "The Friesians" , after Captain Sykes' well known herd of cows! and today the club's colours remain black & white (stripes) as they were all those years ago. Since it's inception in the 20's the club has won a number of trophies, with the 60's being the most notable with numerous league and cup trophies appearing on the shelf.
The Hill Top Sports and Social Club The Hill Top Sports and Social Club has been the home of Westella & Willerby since 1999. They share their facilities with Cottingham Tigers Rugby League Club and Cottingham Cricket Club. The club has undergone many changes since our move here and is still changing all the time. More funding is still needed to take the club further as we aim to get our club playing at the highest standard possible. Our playing surface needed a complete overhaul and, at present, is still unplayable. Once our main arena is up to standard we will have a facility which will be the envy of the region! 31/7/04 Ground developments are still the number 1 priority at the Hill Top site, and hopefully in the not too distant future news shall be released regarding major investment that will be ploughed into the facility. The incumbent rugby league club Cottingham Tigers have been successful in moving through the early stages of obtaining funding from Sport England via the RFL, for the creation of new changing facilities at the site. This will obviously allow the other tenant clubs on site ourselves and Cottingham CC the use of these new facilities. To back this up we are also in the process of putting together a bid to the Football Foundation for the creation of new pitches at the site – something which has prevented our first team from playing up there for some considerable time. Backed by the bodies mentioned above this joint bid should hopefully be worthy of success.
