Westella & Willerby 2 v 2 Driffield F.C.
After the final whistle went one team came off as if they had lost and one team as if they had won. In a tight first half it was the home side who got their passing game going and were rewarded with the lead in the 12th minute after Outram put Robinson clear down the left and his crossed was cleared as far Outram and his sweet left foot volley found the bottom corner from 12 yards out. Westella’s counter attacking game nearly paid dividends once again, when from a Driffield corner it was cleared to Laughton, onto Darren McGrath and his pass put Turay through, but he shot wide. Westella extended their lead in the 43rd minute, again from a Driffield corner. The ball was cleared again to Robinson, he carried the ball into the Driffield half and his cross found Laughton in space and he slotted home. Westella at this stage were cruising. Both teams came out in second half, neither of them recognisable from the first. Westella were simply pegged back and were rightly punished from not killing off the game in the first half. The goal came in the 55th minute from another Driffield corner. The ball was bouncing around the six yard area, off the post and it fell to Thomson who smashed home from close range. Driffield continued to press without really troubling the Westella goal. Stabler should have grabbed the equaliser after he found himself in acres of space but only managed to head wide. The equaliser came 3 minutes from time when Deighton latched on to a through ball and placed it passed the advancing keeper, to leave the honours even.
