Westella & Willerby 6 v 1 Easington United

Westella completed their home league campaign with a comprehensive 6-1 victory over Easington Utd. The result meant that Westella completed the double over a side whom they seem to have the Indian sign over, and it made up for the very poor display earlier in the week against Sculcoates.

In fact things started poorly for the home side with Easington taking lead in the 16th minute, courtesy of a John Clarke free kick which crept it’s way past youngster Mike Scott in the Westella goal. The game remained open with both sides having chances, but it was Westella who equalised after 34mins through Barry Waller after good work by Darren McGrath. Just before the break Westella took the lead when Steve Platten cleverly played in Owen Robinson who fired in off the underside of the crossbar to give Westella a 2-1 half time advantage.

The second half belonged to Westella who looked dangerous every time they attacked, although to their credit Easington also kept pushing forward at every opportunity.  After 48mins Westella moved further ahead when Geoff Herbert played in Owen Robinson who ran through to score with aplomb. Easington continued to push forward but were being picked off on the break, with Westella wasting further opportunities to extend their lead. Eventually Westella moved 4-1 ahead with a great goal from Steve Platten, who after playing three 1-2’s ran through to comfortably beat the keeper. With Easington throwing caution to the wind, their square back four was breached once again after 85mins, when keeper Scott threw a ball to Owen Robinson who broke clean through the defence before setting Waller up for a tap-in and his second. Unfortunately Easington’s misery was compounded when after 87mins, Waller broke through again his shot being turned in to his own net by the unfortunate Medforth.
